Hallway, West Sussex

Hallways set the tone for the rest of the house so it’s a very important space to get right. This entrance hallway in a Sussex based country house had previously received a disappointing slate floor which made it feel chilly and dark.

Recarpeting in seagrass from Alternative Flooring breathed new life into the space, freshening it up and giving the home a more welcoming, warm vibe. The Roger Oates stair runner was laid a decade ago and was still going strong, despite wear on the bottom step which was fixed by a visit from the supplier who hid the seam behind the brass stair rods sourced on eBay.

The two-tone wall paint is Farrow & Ball Inchyra Blue below the handrail and Shaded White above. The bench is an old flea market find by the owners and is upholstered with a William Yeoward cushion seat. The roman blinds were given a new lease of life with a beautiful teal and rattan Samuel & Sons trim.
